Malaga, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Real Madrid claimed its 16th consecutive victory across all competitions on Saturday after earning a 2-1 win over Malaga at the Estadio La Rosaleda.
Los Blancos have been flying for most of the season, having not lost in any competition since a 2-1 defeat against local rivals Atletico Madrid in La Liga play back on Sept. 13.
Coming off a 1-0 win over Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday, Carlo Ancelotti's men were looking for another victory away from home on Saturday.
The visitors opened the scoring after 18 minutes through Karim Benzema and then doubled their advantage seven minutes from time when Gareth Bale made an outstanding run down the right side of the pitch and rocketed it into the top left corner, leaving Malaga goalkeeper Carlos Kameni with no chance for a save.
Isco was sent off in the 86th minute after being shown a second yellow card and Malaga pulled one back in stoppage time through Roque Santa Cruz, but it wasn't enough to keep Los Blancos from extending their impressive winning streak.
The result widens Real's lead atop the La Liga table to five points over second-place Barcelona, while Malaga remains in seventh place on 21 points from 13 matches.
Also in Spain on Saturday, Mikel San Jose and Benat Etxebarria found the back of the net to lift Athletic Bilbao to a 2-1 win over Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, while Felipe Caicedo and Sergio Garcia scored first-half goals to hand Espanyol a 2-1 win over Levante.
The final fixture in La Liga on Saturday saw Eibar claim a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo thanks to a 30th-minute goal from Manu del Moral.
