Madrid, Spain – Leo Baptistao set up a goal and scored the match-winner as Rayo Vallecano won its second straight to open La Liga, 2-1, over Real Betis on Saturday at the Benito Villamarin.
Leo picked out Piti with a cross in the second minute to give Rayo the early lead and, after Jorge Molina scored his third goal of the season in the fourth minute for Betis, scored the match-winner in the 62nd.
Lass Bangoura set up the winner, and Leo converted low past Betis goalkeeper Fabricio to give Vallecano sole possession of first place. Betis started the season with a 5-3 win at Athletic Bilbao, but dropped three points in its home opener.
Real Zaragoza 2, Espanyol 1
Barcelona, Spain - Helder Postiga scored in the 89th minute as Real Zaragoza rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat 10-man Espanyol, 2-1, on Saturday at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat in La Liga.
Alvaro Vasquez gave Espanyol the lead in the 42nd, but Juan Albin was sent off five minutes after half and Apono converted the ensuing penalty for Zaragoza to tie the match.
Postiga sealed three road points when he scored in the final minute of normal time to give Zaragoza its first win of the young season. Espanyol dropped its second straight to start the campaign.
Real Sociedad 2, Celta Vigo 1
San Sebastian, Spain - Imanol Agirretxe scored twice in the second half as Real Sociedad earned its first win of the La Liga season, 2-1, over Celta Vigo on Saturday at Anoeta.
Enrique De Lucas scored the opener for newly-promoted Celta, which has dropped its first two games, but Agirretxe struck in the 54th and 61st minutes as the hosts rallied for a win.
Sociedad lost its opener against Barcelona, 5-1, last week. Celta dropped its opener to Malaga, 1-0.
Malaga 1, Mallorca 1
Malaga, Spain - Juanmi scored in the 76th minute to answer a goal from Tomar Hemed as Malaga tied Mallorca, 1-1, on Saturday at the Estadio La Rosaleda in La Liga.
Hemed scored his third goal of the young season in the 66th minute, but Malaga avoided a home loss when second-half substitute Juanmi scored 10 minutes later to even the score. Malaga had Eliseu sent off late, but it was not a factor.
Both clubs opened with wins last week, and sit level for second place on four points.
