New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Rangers acquired defenseman Raphael Diaz from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a future draft choice prior to Wednesday's trade deadline.
New York will send its fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft for Diaz, who had appeared in just six games with the Canucks after being obtained from the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 3.
Diaz has posted one goal and 12 assists over 52 overall games this season, his third in the NHL. The 28-year-old broke into the league with the Canadiens in 2011.
Over 134 career NHL contests, Diaz has recorded five goals and 38 assists.
The move was the second made by the Rangers at the deadline, having shipped captain Ryan Callahan to Tampa Bay for reigning NHL scoring champ Martin St. Louis in a blockbuster deal earlier Wednesday.
