Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Urszula Radwanska rallied past Alexandra Panova on Thursday and became the lone seeded player to earn a spot in the semifinals of the Tashkent Open.
The second-seeded Radwanska posted a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) victory to reach her second semifinal of 2012. She also went to the final four of Wimbledon tune-up in the Netherlands back in June, advancing to her first career final via a walkover, before falling to Nadia Petrova in the title match.
Radwanska was the only seeded player to win Thursday, as Romania's Alexandra Cadantu, Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski and Kazakhstan's Galina Voskoboeva were all eliminated.
Eva Birnerova of the Czech Republic, last year's Tashkent runner-up, knocked off the fifth-seeded Cadantu, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, and will next face Croatian qualifier Donna Vekic, who took out the sixth-seeded Jovanovski in a 6-4, 6-4 triumph. Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu came back for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 win over the eighth-seeded Voskoboeva and will take on Radwanska in the semis.
