Race Team Alliance says other NASCAR teams may join; 9-team group focused on promoting sport

The chairman of the new Race Team Alliance says the group would allow other NASCAR teams to join and is focused on promoting the sport.

Rob Kauffman says the group is not immediately trying to renegotiate the teams' cut of an $8.2 billion television package that kicks in next year.

The owners first met in June and soon informed NASCAR the group was forming. NASCAR President Mike Helton said Friday there is no animosity from the governing body toward the nine-team RTA.

Speaking Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Kauffman says teams that have attempted to qualify in 95 percent of the Sprint Cup races over the last two years would be eligible to join the RTA.
