HAMDEN, Conn. – Deontay Twyman scored 18 of his career-high 23 points in the first half and Quinnipiac defeated Central Connecticut State 73-68 on Saturday.
James Johnson and Tevin Baskin each scored 13 points, and Jamee Jackson had 11 for the Bobcats (12-4, 4-2 Northeast Conference), who have won three of their past four games.
The Bobcats led 37-24 and built a 15-point lead with 17:40 to play, but the Blue Devils closed to within 67-65 with 59 seconds to go. Quinnipiac used a 6-0 run for a 73-65 lead with 8 seconds remaining.
Central Connecticut State went 2:15 without a field goal down the stretch until Devan Bailey hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds to play.
Chris Baskerville had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Blue Devils (10-7 3-3), who have lost two of their past three games. Ken Horton added 15 points, Bailey had 13 and Shemik Thompson 12.
