Lamar University football coach Ray Woodard announced Tuesday that quarterback Jeremy Johnson has decided to transfer from the program.
Johnson was a backup at Lamar last season after transferring into the Southland Conference program as a redshirt freshman from West Virginia University. The Silsbee, Texas, resident has three years of eligibility remaining.
In six games last season, Johnson completed 16-of-36 pass attempts for 225 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 217 yards - second-most on the team - and two touchdowns.

"This is a decision he feels is best for him," Woodard said. "I wish him luck. We will continue to build and coach the players that want to be here at Lamar University."
Lamar has redshirt sophomore Caleb Berry and junior college transfer Ryan Mossakowski as quarterbacks currently on the roster. Incoming freshman Matthew Bergeron will join the roster in summer camp.
