Ted Purdy closed with a 2-under 70 on Sunday to win the Abierto Mexicano de Golf, the season-opening event for the PGA Tour Latinoamerica.

Purdy finished at 7-under-par 281 for his first win on tour. The 39-year-old has also won once on the PGA and Web.com Tours.

David Vanegas managed a 1-under 71 to take second at minus-6, while third- round leader Jorge Fernandez-Valdes tripped to a 2-over 74, leaving him tied for third.

Fernandez-Valdes ended alongside Benjamin Alvarado (72) at 4-under-par 284. The third-round leader had a birdie and a double-bogey on both the front and back nines.

Purdy played the front nine in even-par to make the turn at minus-5. He jumped into the lead with an eagle at the par-5 11th. Purdy bogeyed the 15th, but birdied No. 17 to seal the win.

Vanegas birdied the last to end one back, while Fernandez-Valdes double- bogeyed No. 18 to drop to minus-4.
