Eindhoven, Netherlands – PSV Eindhoven needed a late goal from Tim Matavz to pull off a come-from-behind win on Saturday, defeating second-place AZ Alkmaar, 3-2, at the Philips Stadion.
Jeremain Lens had put the home side in front in the 17th minute, but AZ pulled level seven minutes later through American striker Jozy Altidore's 14th goal of the season.
Roy Beerens got AZ in front in the 34th minute, a lead that the visitors held deep into the second half. But Lens grabbed a second goal to equalize in the 77th minute before Matavz restored PSV's lead with the game-winner in stoppage time.
PSV improves to 57 points on the season, one point shy of AZ Alkmaar.
Heerenveen also came from behind to claim three points on Saturday as a hat trick from Bas Dost helped overturn a brace from Genero Zeefuik in a 4-2 defeat of NEC.
Rounding out Saturday's Eredivisie action, Feyenoord eased past last-place Excelsior with a 3-0 victory at De Kuip Stadion and Nourdin Boukhari scored at death to help NAC rescue a point in a 2-2 draw at Twente.
