PSG returns to league action against Guingamp

Guingamp, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Paris Saint-Germain will aim to bounce back from its first loss of the season in any competition on Sunday when the defending champions travel to the Stade du Roudourou to face Guingamp.

The capital club has been in outstanding form for the majority of the season, heading into Sunday's clash still unbeaten in league play with 10 wins and seven draws through 17 Ligue 1 matches.

The club's first defeat in any competition came on Wednesday with a 3-1 loss at the hands of Barcelona in the final group stage match of the Champions League.

PSG took the lead at the Camp Nou after 15 minutes thanks to a goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Lionel Messi equalized for the Catalans four minutes later and Neymar put Barcelona in front four minutes prior to the intermission.

Luis Suarez then put the result away for Barcelona with a goal 13 minutes from time to seal all three points.

The defeat means little for PSG, however, as the club had already booked its place in the knockout round of the Champions League, but by finishing second, their potential round-of-16 opponents present more of a challenge.

"I think we lost tactically. We can always say that when we lose," said PSG manager Laurent Blanc. "But I think it's a little too early to try and analyze this match. We had the chance to make it 2-2, but we didn't take it. Defensively, we conceded three goals and it's not easy to win when you do that. We had more scoring chances than in the first leg, but we scored only once."

"The difference tonight was all about putting away your chances," said defender David Luiz. "Barcelona scored more goals than us, and so they won the match. Now we turn our attentions to our next game. It is going to be a very difficult last 16 tie, but, to win the Champions League, you have to beat everybody. In February, we will be ready to beat anyone."

Guingamp, meanwhile, will be aiming for its fourth straight win across all competitions following a 2-1 triumph over Greek side PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday. Domestically Guingamp has won two straight with victories over Reims and Caen.

Against PAOK, Guingamp took the lead after seven minutes through Claudio Beauvue, but Stefanos Athanasiadis equalized with a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.

But Beauvue completed a brace in the 83rd minute to hand Guingamp all three points.

Also in Ligue 1 on Sunday, league-leading Marseille will aim for a second consecutive win in league play against Monaco at the Stade Louis II. A win will keep Marseille one point ahead of PSG, but can go as many as four points clear if PSG falls.

Nice welcomes Saint Etienne to the Stade Municipal du Ray, while Lille hosts Toulouse at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole.

On Saturday, Nantes clashes with Bordeaux at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Bastia hosts Rennes, Lorient tangles with Metz, Montpellier battles Lens and Reims hosts Evian at the Stade Auguste Delaune II.

Friday's action saw Alexandre Lacazette scored a pair of goals and Yassine Benzia added another strike as Lyon claimed a 3-0 win over Caen at the Stade de Gerland.
