The Pirates have acquired third baseman Aramis Ramirez of the Brewers in exchange for minor league pitcher Yhonathan Barrios.
Ramirez, 37, started his career with the Pirates after being signed as an amateur free agent in 1994. He spent nearly six seasons with Pittsburgh before being traded to the Cubs alongside outfielder Kenny Lofton in 2003. Nine years after that Ramirez signed as a free agent with the Brewers. And now his journey around the NL Central comes back to Pittsburgh.
The three-time All-Star has 2,255 hits, 380 homers, 1,384 RBI and a .284/.342/.494 slash line for his career and will fill an infield hole for the second-place Pirates as they push for their third straight playoff berth.
