Phillies release Gaudin

Clearwater, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Thursday that the club has released right-handed pitcher Chad Gaudin after he failed his physical.

Gaudin signed a minor league deal with the Phillies in January and could have filled roles as a long man out of the bullpen or a spot starter when called upon.

The 30-year-old Gaudin was 5-2 with a 3.06 earned run average in 30 games (12 starts) for the San Francisco Giants last year. He was placed on the disabled list in mid-August with carpal tunnel syndrome, ending his season.

The right-hander has compiled a 45-44 record with a 4.44 ERA in 344 games, including 87 starts, for Tampa Bay, Toronto, Oakland, the Chicago Cubs, San Diego, the New York Yankees, Washington, Miami and San Francisco.
