Philip Rivers was poised to land a deal last week that would've made him a Charger for life.

No. 17 is still unsigned as players close in on Chargers Park for camp, though. It means Rivers could play out the remainder of his deal and hit free agency in 2016.

Of course, both sides still have a full season to iron out the details. Rivers' new stance that he'd love to finish out his career in San Diego is encouraging.

The franchise quarterback has maintained all along that he won't let contract talks spill into the season. The Bolts will need to move quickly -- or wait until the end of the season to hammer out an agreement.
