Person familiar with deal: Redskins agree to a 1-year deal with ex-Texans LB Darryl Sharpton

A person familiar with the deal says the Washington Redskins have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent linebacker Darryl Sharpton.

The person confirmed the deal on Thursday on condition of anonymity because the contract had not yet been signed.

Sharpton would help the Redskins' special teams and could be another candidate to replace London Fletcher, who is expected to retire.

Sharpton has started 19 games over four seasons with the Houston Texans, including eight starts last year after Brian Cushing went down with a knee injury.
