Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins placed forward James Neal on injured reserve Tuesday.
The move came nearly a week after speculation surfaced in multiple reports that the 26-year-old winger sustained an undisclosed injury while playing wiffle ball on ice.
Neal participated in just one game this season and did not record a point.
To fill the roster slot, the Pens recalled forward Harry Zolnierczyk from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
The Brown University product had previously seen NHL action with the Flyers, 44 games worth, from 2011-13.
