Penguins, Asham agree on one-year deal

The Pittsburgh Penguins couldn't agree to terms with Jaromir Jagr on Wednesday, but they were able to re-sign one of their own. The Penguins announced late Wednesday that they've re-signed forward Arron Asham for one year and $775,000.

Asham, who is 33 years old, appeared in 44 games and posted 5 goals and 6 assists last season, his first in Pittsburgh. He also had a team-high 3 goals in seven playoff games. Asham originally signed as an unrestricted free agent on Aug. 20, 2010, a few months after helping the Philadelphia Flyers reach the Stanley Cup Final.

Asham has 190 points over 692 NHL regular-season games and 17 points in 59 playoff games. He was drafted by Montreal in the third round of the 1996 Entry Draft and has previously played for the Canadiens, Islanders, Devils and Flyers.
