New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo was named MLS Player of the Week for the sixth week of the 2015 season.
Penedo put on a goalkeeping clinic on Sunday in the Galaxy's 1-0 win over rivals Seattle Sounders FC, making an impressive 10 saves to keep the clean sheet.
The Galaxy goalkeeper wasted no time making his presence felt. In the ninth minute, Sounders forward Lamar Neagle directed a header toward the far corner of the net, but Penedo extended every inch of his frame to tip it over the crossbar.
With LA holding on to a precarious 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute, Neagle, who was denied on each of his five shots on goal, connected with midfielder Andy Rose on a short cross inside the penalty area. Penedo positioned himself perfectly on the near post and managed to deflect Rose's point-blank shot away, allowing Galaxy defender Dan Gargan to clear the ball from danger.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
