Pelicans rename arena Smoothie King Center

New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Orleans Pelicans have reached multi-year arena naming rights agreement with Smoothie King to rename New Orleans Arena the Smoothie King Center.

Smoothie King is the premier Smoothie Bar and Nutritional Lifestyle Center and opened its first location in 1973 in New Orleans. It started as the first franchised smoothie bar / health food center in the United States in 1989.

"Introducing our home court as the Smoothie King Center is one of the goals we set when we purchased the team and we're excited to partner with a locally- incepted company in Smoothie King," said Pelicans owner and chairman of the board Tom Benson.

The name change came just in time for the NBA's All-Star Weekend that will be held February 14-16 in New Orleans.
