Paire wins Stockholm opener

Stockholm, Sweden (SportsNetwork.com) - Fifth seed Benoit Paire highlighted Monday's first-round winners at the $715,000 Stockholm Open tennis event.

The world No. 25 Frenchman got past Colombian Santiago Giraldo 6-4, 6-4 on the indoor hardcourts at Kungliga Tennishallen.

Also on Day 1, Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta was tied with Estonian Jurgen Zopp 5-5 in the first set when Zopp retired with a lower back injury and Dutchman Igor Sijsling handled German Tobias Kamke 6-4, 6-2.

The top seeds in Stockholm are David Ferrer and Milos Raonic.

Czech Tomas Berdych, who is not defending his title this year, beat France's J-Wilfried Tsonga in last year's marquee finale.

This week's titlist will earn $130,000.
