The San Diego Padres placed pitcher Jason Marquis on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a fractured left wrist.

Marquis suffered the injury in second inning of Tuesday's game when a line drive off the bat of the Pirates' Pedro Alvarez struck him in the palm of his glove hand.

Marquis was looked at by trainers, but he remained in the game and pitched into the sixth inning.

The 34-year-old is 6-7 with a 4.04 earned run average in 15 starts for the Padres after joining the team in June.

He was 2-4 with an 8.47 ERA through seven starts with the Minnesota Twins earlier in the season before being designated for assignment.

San Diego recalled pitcher Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson to fill the roster spot.

Boxberger has no decisions and a 3.52 ERA over 13 relief appearances for the Padres this year.

Also on Thursday, infielder Jason Bartlett cleared unconditional release waivers and is now a free agent.
