Oklahoma State forward Tyrek Coger died after a team workout Thursday, the school announced.

Coger was 21.

According to the school, Coger, a junior college transfer from Raleigh, N.C., was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m. local time at Stillwater Medical Center.

Coger played at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C., last season. He arrived at Oklahoma State on July 5.

Cowboys head coach Brad Underwood expressed his condolences to Coger's family.

"Tyrek was excited to be at Oklahoma State and had such passion for the game and was looking forward to being an OSU Cowboy. Losing a member of the team is like losing a member of the family. But we know our loss pales in comparison to the pain his family is going through," Underwood said via the team's website.
