DENTON, Texas – Tony Mitchell and P.J. Hardwick had 14 points each to lead a balanced North Texas attack in a 66-56 victory against South Alabama on Saturday night.
The Mean Green (7-11, 2-5 Sun Belt) never trailed and had all five starters score in double figures, with Jordan Williams adding 13 points, Alzee Williams 11 and Roger Franklin 10. Mitchell had 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Augustine Rubit and Freddie Goldstein had 12 points each for the Jaguars (8-8, 5-3).
North Texas' bench has been depleted by injuries, forcing the team to ride its starting five. In their last three games, the Mean Green's bench has been outscored 67-11.
On Saturday, North Texas started fast, taking a 26-7 advantage. The Mean Green led by 21 in the second half.
