San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwayne Polee II scored 14 points and No. 13 San Diego State continued its dominance over rival San Diego with a 57-48 win on Thursday at Viejas Arena.
J.J. O'Brien had 13 points and freshman Trey Kell scored 10 for the Aztecs, who got back on track after a two-point loss to Arizona in the final of the Maui Invitational on Nov. 26.
San Diego State (6-1) has won nine straight meetings with San Diego.
Johnny Dee paced the Toreros (4-4) with 16 points in the setback.
O'Brien scored on the front and back end of an 8-0 run to start the game. Dee finally broke the seal for San Diego with a 3 at 16:37, but Kell answered with a triple at the other end.
SDSU went more than six minutes without scoring later in the first half but limited the Toreros to just a Jito Kok dunk during that stretch. O'Brien hit a 3-ball late in the half and the Aztecs led 31-19 at halftime.
San Diego State failed to really pull away, but it wasn't threatened either. The margin hovered between seven and 12 for the entire second half.
