Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Atletico Madrid has locked up the future of midfielder Saul Niguez after agreeing to terms with him on a new five-year contract.

The 20-year-old Niguez has enjoyed a breakout season with Atletico, scoring four goals in 32 appearances for a team that sits in third place in La Liga.

Niguez came up through the ranks at Atletico and had been mentioned as a potential target for Manchester United, but his new deal will keep him at the Vicente Calderon until 2020.

"For me it means a lot to wear this shirt," Niguez said. "I've been here for 12 years and the club have treated me very well. People have taken care of me from day one. For me, wearing this shirt and playing is the most beautiful thing there is."

Niguez spent last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano, making 34 appearances and scoring two goals.
