Niese's shoulder OK
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Port St. Lucie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Mets starting pitcher Jon Niese received good news on Thursday, as an MRI on his pitching shoulder came back clean.
Niese was sent to New York on Wednesday to have an MRI performed on his sore left shoulder. He had been experiencing discomfort in his left triceps since the start of the team's spring training camp and had to cut short a recent throwing session.
However, results of the MRI came back negative and he should resume throwing when he gets back to camp. Niese is still slated to be the Mets' Opening Day starter.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Niese missed nearly two months of last season due to a partially torn rotator cuff, but did not require surgery. He went 5-2 with a 3.00 earned run average in 10 starts after returning to the mound in mid-August.
In 24 overall starts in 2013, Niese compiled an 8-8 record with a 3.71 ERA.
The 27-year-old won a career-high 13 games while posting a 3.40 ERA the previous season.
