New deal to keep Woodson with Packers through 2014

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Charles Woodson has signed a contract extension with the Green Bay Packers that will keep last season's defensive player of the year with the NFL team through the 2014 season, the Packers said on Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal for the cornerback, acquired as a free agent in 2006 after spending his first eight seasons with the Oakland Raiders, were not released.

The 33-year-old was scheduled to make $6.5 million in base salary over the next three seasons, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on its website (www.jsonline.com).

Woodson had a career-high nine interceptions and two sacks last season while making his sixth Pro Bowl team.
