Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Nationals activated center fielder Denard Span from the 15-day disabled list prior to Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Span had surgery to repair a core muscle in early March after a previous procedure to fix a sports hernia injury last December.
The move comes after Span went 5-for-12 with a home run during a three-game rehab stint between Single-A Hagerstown and Double-A Harrisburg.

The 31-year-old Span is coming off his best season in the big leagues, as he hit .302 to go along with career-bests in hits (184), extra-base hits (52), stolen bases (31) and doubles (39).
In a corresponding roster move, the Nationals optioned outfielder Michael A. Taylor to Triple-A Syracuse. He hit .271 with two homers and eight RBI in 12 games.
