Metzelder picks up new groin injury

Schalke defender Christoph Metzelder made his first start of the season in the club's Pokal Cup match against SV Sandhausen on Tuesday but left the match with a groin injury.

The 31-year-old had to come off at halftime and no timetable has been given for his return.

"I'm afraid I have a torn muscle in the groin area," Metzelder told Schalke's official website.

Metzelder has made 48 Bundesliga appearances for Schalke since joining the club from Real Madrid in 2010.
