The New York Mets may not wait until September to skip a turn for ace right-hander Matt Harvey.
Mets manager Terry Collins on Wednesday told reporters that the team is weighing the possibility of Harvey missing Sunday's scheduled start against the Colorado Rockies. New York is trying to keep Harvey under the team-mandated limit of 190 innings this season.
Harvey, who missed all of last year due to Tommy John surgery, already is at 154 innings. Last week, Collins said the Mets would "do everything in our power" to keep Harvey from missing a start down the stretch.

The Mets are expected to go to a six-man rotation in September once rookie Steven Matz comes off the 15-day disabled list. They also plan to have both Harvey and rookie Noah Syndergaard skip starts to hold down their innings.
Harvey is 11-7 with a 2.52 ERA this season. He has been outstanding over his last five starts, going 3-0 while allowing a combined four runs over 35 2/3 innings.
