New York Mets third baseman David Wright was out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Washington because of a fractured finger but will not need surgery, the team said.

Wright jammed the pinky finger on his right hand diving back to first base in Monday's win over the Nationals.

An X-ray showed a small fracture at the middle join of the finger, the Mets said in a statement Tuesday night. It was to be splinted and re-evaluated on Wednesday.

The Mets said Wright "can return to baseball activity as tolerated."

He is hitting .583 (7-for-12) with a homer and four runs batted in four games so far this season.
