Melanie Oudin receives wild card into US Open

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Former U.S. Open quarterfinalist Melanie Oudin has received a wild card into this year's tournament.

The U.S. Tennis Association announced on Wednesday the eight women awarded wild cards. The 20-year-old Oudin was the darling of the 2009 Open with her surprise run to the quarterfinals. But the American has struggled to maintain that form since and wasn't ranked high enough for automatic entry this year.

Other Americans receiving wild cards are Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Nicole Gibbs, Mallory Burdette, Victoria Duval and Julia Cohen. Gibbs and Burdette were this year's NCAA singles finalists, and Duval was the USTA girls' 18s champion.

Australia's Casey Dellacqua and France's Kristina Mladenovic receive the last two spots under reciprocal arrangements with the Australian and French Opens.

The year's final Grand Slam starts Aug. 27.
