McCoy, Browns top Packers in preseason opener

Colt McCoy was sharp in his first preseason of-10 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown to 17.

The former Texas Longhorn capped his first drive -- an eight-play, 71-yard march -- with a 27-yard touchdown pass to receiver Josh Cribbs. He highlighted another scoring drive with a 37-yard pass to tight end Benjamin Watson.

Watson finished with a pair of catches for 56 yards and Madden '12 cover boy Peyton Hillis ran five times for 16 yards and a touchdown. The first-teamers undoubtedly left a good impression on new head coach Pat Shurmur, who replaced the fired Eric Mangini in January.

The Browns defense played well under new coordinator, and former Green Bay assistant, Dick Jauron, forcing three fumbles and recovering one. They had five sacks.

After a three-and-out on his first series, Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers finished 6-for-8 passing for 74 yards and a touchdown. Running back Ryan Grant, who saw his first game action since being injured in the 2010 opener against Philadelphia, rushed three times for 13 yards.

Randall Cobb led the Packers in receiving, catching three balls for 60 yards, including one for 28 yards.

Defensive back Charles Woodson and tight end Jermichael Finley did not suit up for the defending champs.
