Mayweather calls out Pacquiao for May bout

Free from serving a jail term for the next five months, Floyd Mayweather Jr. took to Twitter in challenging Manny Pacquiao for a blockbuster bout.

"Manny Pacquiao I'm calling you out let's fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see," Mayweather said via Twitter Tuesday.

Instead of reporting to jail this past Friday to serve an 87-day sentence for a domestic violence conviction, Mayweather learned he would be free for another five months. Mayweather received his jail term after striking a plea deal last month to avoid felony charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his former girlfriend and their two children in 2010.

He pleaded guilty to one count of battery-domestic violence and no contest to two counts of harassment.

Mayweather, who turns 35 next month, is 42-0 with 26 knockouts in his 15-year career. He asked for the delay in his jail sentence to fulfill a contractual obligation to fight May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but the opponent is still to be determined.

"My Jail Sentence was pushed back because the date was locked in. Step up Punk," Mayweather tweeted to Pacquiao.

The 33-year-old Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs), an eight-division champion, last fought on November 12, beating Juan Manuel Marquez in a 12-round majority decision. Mayweather's most recent bout was September 17, a fourth-round knockout of Victor Ortiz.

A future fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao could be the richest in boxing's history.

Monday night, Mayweather tweeted a photo of a betting slip that showed he won $400,000 on the BCS championship game. Alabama beat LSU, 21-0, to claim the national title.
