It showed, too. OU got off to a slow, rough start in the first half against Akron, not scoring a touchdown until late in the second quarter, but everything smoothed out.
Mayfield threw for an OU record in a season opener, 388 yards and three touchdowns.
"I had a bit of the jitters before the game," Mayfield said to The Oklahoman after he turned around a slow start to lead the Sooners to a 41-3 blowout of the Zips on Saturday night at Gaylord Family â Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. "That's not usual for me."
