VIERA, Fla. – Dan Haren allowed a run over two sharp innings in his debut with the Washington Nationals, but the Nathan Eovaldi pitched two hitless innings in his first start to lead the Miami Marlins to a 5-1 victory on Wednesday.
NL Rookie of the Year Bryce Harper cooled off some, going 0 for 2 for the Nationals. He had three hits Tuesday and is 6 for 10 to start spring training.
Haren signed a one-year, $13 million contract this winter with the NL East champions. He allowed two hits, including a leadoff triple to top prospect Christian Yelich, and struck out three.
Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth and first basemen Adam LaRoche went a combined 0 for 4 with three strikeouts in their first outings.
