New York, NY – Seattle Mariners first baseman Mike Carp was named the American League's top rookie for the month of August.
Carp led all Junior Circuit rookies with 25 RBI during the just-completed month and tied for the lead with eight doubles. He hit for a .313 average with a .545 slugging percentage, six home runs and 15 runs scored in the period.
He also carried a career-high 20-game hitting streak from July 30 through August 21.
Other first-year players receiving votes included Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova, Tampa Bay outfielder Desmond Jennings, Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie and Angels first baseman Mark Trumbo.
