Marathon Runners Reportedly Had Water Spiked With 'Date Rape Drug' in Iran
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Three marathon runners reportedly had their drinking water spiked with the "date rape drug" Rohypnol while in Iran, AFP reports.
Taiwanese runner Kevin Lin Yi-chieh, along with his two Chinese teammates Bai Bin and Chen Jun, was hospitalized Monday after the reported incident, the trip's organizer said.
"The runners are fine now after hospital treatment and the Iranian government is investigating the incident," the Home Expedition told AFP in a statement.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A local hospital told Taiwan's CTI cable news channel that the three were drugged by Rohypnol.
A former Home Expedition employee was suspected of spiking their water with the "date rape drug," according to AFP.
Lin was competing in the ultra-marathon "Running for the Silk Road" when the incident occurred.
