Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian is facing a spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder during Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Sunderland.

The Italian collided with Wahbi Khazri by the right-hand corner in the 37th minute and had to be replaced by Donald Love, who came on to make his debut.

"He (Darmian) will be out for several weeks," Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal confirmed after the match.

News of the severity of Darmian's injury capped a bad day for United, who failed to close the gap on the sides occupying the Champions League spots.
