Manchester United explores friendlies to fill void left by lack of Champions League
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Manchester United is looking at playing lucrative friendlies overseas to fill the midweek void left by the absence of European football this season and the early League Cup exit.
The record 20-time English champions have forecast a 10 percent drop in revenue in 2014-15 after failing to qualify for the Champions League under David Moyes.
Asked about midseason friendlies overseas, managing director Richard Arnold says that's "something we continue to look at."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Also, Louis van Gaal's managerial reign began in July with him questioning the team's obligations to sponsors, but Arnold says there is no problem.
Arnold tells The Associated Press that Van Gaal understands "what's required to get a first-class team onto the pitch and also what's required for running a club of our magnitude."
