Man at US Open allegedly tried entering tournament with gun before pointing it at cop: report
Suspect was apprehended in U.S. Open parking lot

A man with a gun was taken into custody outside of the U.S. Open on Saturday afternoon, according to the New York Post.

A source told The Post that the man tried entering the tournament with a gun and brandished it in front of cops.

Personnel confronted the armed individual as he was going through security, at which point he pulled out the weapon and brandished it at a cop before running toward the parking lot.

Another source, however, said that two men in a vehicle tried getting away from police driving toward the tournament. One of them men stepped out of the car and threw the gun to the ground. That person was taken by police, but the driver is still on the loose.

Police said no shots were fired, and there are no injuries.
The person was apprehended in the parking lot with the gun and taken into custody.
Earlier this week, the FBI issued a warning over an anti-vaxxer who crossed the Canadian-US border in order to protest the tournament.

Novak Djokovic, who last won the tournament in 2018 and reached the final in 2021, did not participate in this year’s tournament since he is not vaccinated against COVID-19. The person claimed he had been on Reddit discussing his plans to visit the tournament.

Saturday marks the sixth day of the tournament, which will go on until Sept. 11.
