Mainz inked Costa Rican defender Junior Diaz to a three-year contract Friday.
The 28-year-old Diaz will join the German Bundesliga side from Belgian side Club Brugge. A left back, Diaz spent last season on loan with Wisla Krakow in Poland. He also played for the Polish side from 2008-10.
"Junior Diaz is a technically skilled, athletic defender who is strong in the tackle. He mainly plays on the left-hand side of a back four, but can also be utilized in the center of defense," said Mainz manager Christian Heidl.

Diaz debuted for Costa Rica in 2003, and has played 50 times for his country.
"I have been following the Bundesliga since I was a little boy and have heard a lot of positive things about Mainz," Diaz said. "I'm really looking forward to my new challenge."
