Lowrie returning to Astros

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros signed free agent shortstop Jed Lowrie to a three-year contract on Monday.

The deal is reportedly worth $23 million and includes a club option for 2018.

Lowrie, 30, batted .249 with six home runs and 50 RBI over 136 games last season for the Oakland Athletics. He hit a career-high 16 homers with the Astros in 2012.

Over seven major league seasons with Boston, Houston and Oakland, Lowrie has hit .261 with 56 homers and 284 RBI in 643 games.

The Astros will announce a corresponding move on Tuesday to create room for Lowrie on the 40-man roster.
