Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria has been placed on the 15-day disabled list and will miss the next four to eight weeks with a partially torn left hamstring.
Longoria left Monday's game against Seattle after an awkward slide into second base on a steal attempt in the third inning. He limped off the field under his own power and the injury was initially described as sore behind the left knee.
Longoria was off to a great start for the 2012 season, batting .329 in 23 games with four homers and a team-best 19 runs batted in.

To replace Longoria on the active roster, infielder Will Rhymes has been selected from Triple-A Durham, while right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth has been transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40- man roster for Rhymes.
