Long before Griner set NCAA block record at Baylor, another 6-8 woman actually had more

While Baylor's Brittney Griner is recognized as the NCAA career leader for blocked shots, there is another 6-foot-8 women's college player who had more.

Anne Donovan had 801 blocks three decades ago as a dominating center for Old Dominion. The Lady Monarchs won the AIAW national championship her freshman season in 1980. They later played in two NCAA tournaments, including the Final Four her senior season.

But Donovan, now a WNBA coach, is quick to point out that the AIAW is a "whole lot different" than the NCAA. And that she never had a dunk like Griner.

Griner's 736 blocks are the most for NCAA men or women.

Baylor (32-1) has been to two Final Fours in Griner's career, and is the defending national champion.
