Lisicki bows out in Auckland

Top-seeded Sabine Lisicki was opening ASB Classic.
Lisicki, who survived a three-set battle on Wednesday to advance, dropped the first set to fellow German Angelique Kerber and was trailing in the second set when she bowed out with a back injury.
Third-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia handled Italian Sara Errani 6-4, 6-3.

Fourth-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy, who was a finalist here two years ago, had no problems in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Russian Elena Vesnina on the hardcourts at ASB Tennis Centre.
Jie Zheng of China was also a straight-set winner as she took a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic.
The winner of this $220,000 Australian Open tuneup will claim $37,000.
