Lima's double leads Benfica over FC Porto

Porto, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Benfica stretched its lead in the Portuguese Liga to six points on Sunday as Lima scored a goal in each half to lead the club to a 2-0 win at second-place FC Porto.

Porto came into the home showdown with Benfica three points back and hoping to pull level with a win over their rivals. However, the hosts ended up with their first league defeat of the campaign, while Benfica has now claimed five straight wins to take charge of things at the top of the table.

It took 36 minutes for Lima to break the deadlock as he benefited from some poor defending from the home side to score from close range after a long throw in managed to get through a group of Porto players.

The lead was doubled in the 56th with Lima once again finding the net from close range as he pounced on a rebound from Anderson Talisca's shot to net his fifth goal of the campaign.

Guimaraes failed to make the most of Porto's defeat as the club was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Rio Ave, preventing Guimaraes from moving into second place.

Braga climbed into the top four on the strength of a 1-0 win at Belenenses through a first-half goal from Aderlan Santos, while Sporting Lisbon dropped to fifth following a 1-1 draw with Moreirense as Sporting needed a stoppage- time equalizer from Fredy Montero.

Ze Manuel's goal in the 56th minute was enough for Boavista to down Setubal, 1-0, Academica and Gil Vicente traded second-half goals in a 1-1 draw, Cicero scored in stoppage time to lead Pacos Ferreira to a 2-1 win over Arouca, Penafiel topped Nacional, 2-1, and Maritimo played out a 0-0 draw with Estoril.
