NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed goalie Mike Smith on waivers following the recent acquisition of starter Dwayne Roloson, the National Hockey League website (www.nhl.com) said Wednesday.
Smith had been competing with Dan Ellis for playing time behind Roloson, who has posted an 8-3 record in 11 games for Tampa Bay since coming over from the New York Islanders.
A five-year NHL veteran who played his first two seasons with the Dallas Stars, Smith ranked last in save percentage (.883) this season out of 46 qualifying goaltenders, having yielded an average of 3.20 goals a game.
