Liberty defeats Gardner-Webb 67-51

Evan Gordon scored 16 points and John Brown grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Liberty to a 67-51 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday night.

The Flames (16-7, 10-1 Big South Conference) struggled in the opening half — shooting 25 percent from the floor (9 of 36) — but still led 31-22 at the break.

Liberty shot 46.2 percent (12 of 26) in the second half and led by as many as 19, 60-41, with 5:51 remaining en route to its ninth win in 10 games.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (7-16, 2-9) were led by Laron Buggs' 12 points and Keith Manley's 10 rebounds, but finished 19 of 56 from the floor (33.9 percent), including 3 of 21 from 3-point range (14.3 percent).

David Minaya added 12 points and Jesse Sanders 11 for the Flames, who outrebounded Gardner-Webb 49-39.

The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 40 percent from the free-throw line (10 of 25) and lost for the 12th time in their last 13 contests.
