Goaltender Michael Leighton cleared waivers on Tuesday, and was sent to the Philadelphia Flyers' AHL affiliate.

Leighton, 29, a standout during the Flyers' run to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, was placed on waivers by Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren on Monday. Holmgren admitted Monday in a conference call that he first looked to trade Leighton without any success, before coming to his decision.

Leighton will play for the Adirondack Phantoms for the foreseeable future, while the Flyers move on with Brian Boucher and Sergei Bobrovsky.

The Flyers, tied for first place in the Atlantic Division with Pittsburgh, will take on the New Jersey Devils in Newark on Thursday.
