Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew Ladd scored twice, including the go-ahead goal early in the third period, and the Winnipeg Jets escaped with a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
Paul Postma and Jacob Trouba also lit the lamp for the Jets, who have won two in a row. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 18-of-21 shots.
Brock Nelson, John Tavares and Mikhail Grabovski scored for the Islanders, who had a brief two-game winning streak snapped. Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves after sitting out the previous two games in favor of Chad Johnson.
Ladd broke a 3-3 tie at the 3:31 mark of the third period. Bryan Little's shot from the top of the right circle hit off the pads of Halak, leaving a rebound for Ladd.
The Islanders went on the power play when Postma was called for holding with 4:04 remaining. But Pavelec held strong in net to preserve the victory for Winnipeg.
"In the third we didn't pay the price and we weren't gritty," Tavares said. "We battled back, but we didn't have a great third."
Nelson's power-play goal 1:16 into the game made it 1-0 Islanders. Johnny Boychuk's blast from the left point hit off the post and Nelson put home the rebound.
The Jets went on the power play for five minutes when Nikolay Kulemin was given a game misconduct for boarding 24 seconds into the middle stanza.
Ladd tied things up at the 1:14 mark when he jammed home a loose puck in front. Postma scored the second goal on the major power play at 4:06, banking a shot off Halak from behind the net.
"It was not our greatest start but we had a strong finish," Ladd said. "I thought after the first period, after we had that power play, we got two big goals to kind of get energized and back going."
Trouba gave Winnipeg a 3-1 advantage when he scored from the high slot during a 4-on-4 at the 11:42 mark.
But the Islanders responded with two power-play goals to tie the game at three. Tavares put home a rebound at 14:28 and Grabovski scored from in close at 15:52.
